SEND Legal Training for Schools

Understanding SEND law and EHCP responsibilities is essential for schools, but legal language and statutory guidance do not always translate easily into day-to-day practice. Our SEND Legal Training helps schools, SENCOs, and leaders understand SEND legal expectations more clearly and apply them more confidently in the reality of school life.

Practical SEND legal training rooted in school reality

Schools need more than a summary of legislation. They need training that helps staff and leaders understand what legal expectations actually mean in relation to provision, planning, communication, and decision-making in school.

Our SEND Legal Training is designed to bridge that gap. It helps schools translate complex legal and statutory frameworks into practical understanding, using clear language, real school examples, and focused professional development. This makes the training particularly valuable for settings that want to strengthen staff confidence and make sure legal expectations are understood in a way that is realistic, relevant, and manageable.

We specialise in helping schools understand the practical implications of SEND law, including how EHCPs operate in school, what responsibilities sit with staff and leaders, and how legal expectations should influence everyday provision.

What this training can cover

Training is tailored to the needs of the school or setting, but it may include support with understanding EHCP responsibilities, interpreting statutory expectations, reviewing what SEND law means in practice, and helping staff understand how legal duties relate to planning, communication, and provision.

This may include:

  • understanding what an EHCP means for schools in practice
  • reviewing roles and responsibilities across the EHCP process
  • exploring how statutory expectations connect to school systems and provision
  • improving staff confidence in SEND-related legal responsibilities
  • strengthening communication with families and external professionals

The aim is always to make legal expectations clearer and more usable, rather than overwhelming staff with technical language.

Why schools choose SEND legal training

Schools often choose this training because they want staff and leaders to feel more confident in an area that can otherwise feel complex, pressured, or difficult to interpret. Legal expectations around SEND and EHCPs can affect provision, communication, planning, and decision-making across the school, so having a stronger practical understanding can make a significant difference.

This training helps schools move beyond compliance language alone and focus on what statutory responsibilities mean in the day-to-day context of school life. That makes it especially useful where leaders want a more informed and consistent approach across the setting.

Who this training is for

This service is suitable for SENCOs, senior leaders, trust leaders, teaching staff, pastoral staff, and wider school teams who need stronger understanding of SEND legal duties and EHCP responsibilities.

It is particularly relevant for schools that want to:

  • strengthen staff confidence in SEND legal expectations
  • improve understanding of EHCP-related responsibilities
  • connect legal duties more clearly to everyday practice
  • provide practical SEND legal CPD for school teams
  • reduce uncertainty around what schools are expected to do

The feedback from schools reflects the value of clear explanation, practical examples, and legally informed guidance delivered in a way that remains engaging and accessible. The current page already includes strong testimonials that support exactly this positioning.
